Check out my new class: "Natural Science Illustration -- Painting Toads and Turtles in Gouache" under the "Learn Gouache" tab on the right. These subjects are often overlooked but make fascinating paintings.
Also, I'm now being represented by Looking Good Licensing. If you're interested in using any of my images on your products, please click their link to contact them.
Sound of Wings Studio, specializing in natural science illustration, is located in Southwest Lower Michigan on fifteen acres of gently rolling meadows filled with wildlife, wildflowers, lightly wooded areas and cultivated gardens of flowers and vegetables.
I come from a family of gardeners and it's been only natural for me to be inspired by the beautiful gardens my mother and grandmother created. Many of my botanical paintings use specimens from their collections. I've been a natural science illustrator for more than twenty years and I'm a long time member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. My work has been included in books, magazines, murals, ceramic housewares and greeting cards.
The main medium for my paintings is gouache, an opaque watercolor, because of the great amount of detail I can attain. I also work in pen and ink, transparent watercolor, graphite, pastel, colored pencil, acrylics and oil. Besides botanicals, my subjects are also wildlife, domestic animals and landscapes.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my gallery of paintings and designs. Most of them are offered for purchase -- art prints in several sizes, greeting cards and some originals. If you're interested in purchasing an original please contact me. I also accept commissions. My specialties are natural science illustration, wildlife, birds, botanicals, horses, dogs, cats, any pet or even domestic livestock. My rates are reasonable.
